A Slayer's Reckoning by Ariel Cross was a fun, badass vampire slayer story that was a joy to read, and even more fun to paint!
It was a story that gave me a clear vision from the very start about what I needed to show, a badass Terra wielding her khopesh in a graveyard. The tricky part came in trying to finish it. I thought I was done 3 different times before inevitably returning to give it just a little bit more love. Many thanks to fellow illustrator and designer Kim Dingwall for the assist and encouragement in getting it over the line. The extra work totally paid off though and I can't wait to do more work like this!
I almost forgot to mention the highlight of getting to make my own prop khopesh and shooting reference with local life model, Ella. It really reminds me why working with authors and other creatives to bring more art to the world can be such an awesome job!
